5 tips on how to become a brand ambassador in 2024

Being a brand ambassador is a great way to connect and build you social status.

Being a brand ambassador can be very rewarding.

I am a micro-influencer on Instagram. I do not have over 5,000 followers, but I have worked as a brand ambassador for brands like Good American, Good Molecules, and The ReVamp Detroit – a metro Detroit clothing swap organization.

However, I got those experiences because one day, I decided to start a new Instagram and create content geared towards my love for fashion and lifestyle. It’s been a journey, but I have received free products, free opportunities and connected with other fashion brand ambassadors.

It’s been a fun journey so far.

Here are five tips on how to become a brand ambassador in 2024:

Find a niche

Before you start your brand ambassador journey, have a niche.

What is a niche?

You specialize in a niche, and you can function comfortably in it.

Examples of niches

  • Beauty
  • Fashion
  • Fitness
  • Foodie

Make content towards the niche

Whether you create a new social media account or not, you must start making content for your niche.

That looks like creating fashion videos of you trying on clothes or giving outfit ideas and hauls. Beauty content creators can create makeup tutorials or hauls from Sephora.

You need to create content for your niche so that brands will have an idea of what you specialize in. Plus, as a brand ambassador, you need to create a following.

Start locally

Create content that relates to local brands in your city. You could start by trying new restaurants in your city and getting content about their establishment.

If new small businesses are popping up, visit their locations and give a walk-through tour, that way you give locals a view of what’s new. Plus, it allows you an opportunity to create content as a lifestyle content creator.

Creating content that focuses on local business can open the doors for local organizations to want to connect with you. It can help you build a following in your city.

Connect with brands

If you’re up to it, create a media kit showing your best photos , niche, and metrics so that you have results to show to brands so they want to work with you.

You can also connect with brands by tagging them in captions and posts so they know you are visiting or using their products.

I have not reached out to brands, but I plan to make a media kit.

Start a portfolio

Since I already have my blog, I typically use it as a portfolio.

You can create a portfolio using website builders like WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace.

What your portfolio should consist of:

  • About you
  • Mission statement
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Content you created
  • Metrics

PS: I’ve had no luck with these platforms because I wasn’t consistently using the apps.

The biggest tip

As a brand ambassador, know what brands you want to collaborate with and create content geared towards it.

Bonus tip: Use social media influencer apps

There are apps now that allow you to apply to brand partnerships like:
