What loves means to me… a short story part 2

Valentine’s Day story about love.

7 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2024

I am blinded next to TK as we ride to this surprise place. He’s holding my hands and I sort of felt protected.

Every now and then he would tighten his grip around my hand to make them tighter.

I liked TK, he was my everything. We pulled into a parking lot because I could feel the material of the road change, it went to a more smoother pavement.

“We’re here baby.” He kissed my cheek.

“Keep your mask on until I tell you take it off though.”

“Okay!,” I say too gleefully.

He let’s go on my hand and I rub the hand sweat on my legs. He comes to my side of the car and grabs my car door. “Grab my hand, my lady.”

I grab his hand and he begins to escort me through the parking lot into the building or place we were going to be in.

It was actually quite quiet. I can feel us getting on an elevator. We were on it for a bit then we got off, he guided me through I assume a hallway.

I can here him start digging in his pocket for something. A little buzz goes off.

“Okay remove your bandana and open your eyes in 3, 2, 1”

I removed my bandana from around my eyes and opened them. I couldn’t believe I finally was experiencing my dream Valentine’s Day decorated room except this was a penthouse view with a jacuzzi.

“Do you like it?” TK wraps his arms around me and places a bunch of soft kisses on my cheek.

“Yes, I love it,” I turn to face him and stand on my tippy toes to give him a soft peck. He tightens his grip around my waist and presses his nose against mine.

He smiles at me, “I am glad you like it. Want some food?”

TK knew I loved tacos and rice so he got me some tacos and rice. I was obessed with Locos’s.

“Thank you baby.” I kiss his cheek one more time. Every time I did that his cheeks would flare up.

“Why do you like me?”

He sighs, “Here you go, killing the mood.” “Why does it matter,” he adds.

“Because I wanna know Tee.”

TK was a lovely boyfriend but he never said he liked me just he messed with me. I needed to know the truth before I fully gave in.

“I just planned a whole trip for you to spend Valentine’s Day with me in a state you like and can’t shut up about and you’re asking me do I like you?”

“T-

“No, look Lani you’re sweet and I really want to kick it with you but you gotta be a little more confident. These women out here are just waiting for the next chance for someone to take care of them. You need to be all in or it’s going to look like I am for the streets. You goin have to step up and play your part.”

“What part,” I ask disinterested.

“The part where you be my girl.”

“To the public?”

“Yes? No? Your choice?,” he asks. “I prefer the public,” he adds.

Being a basketball’s player girlfriend in the public? That’s a little problematic.

“I don’t know Tee. I don’t know if I want the backlash.”

“Backlash of what?” “Everyone already know I am kicking it with you.”

“How,” I asked.

He chuckles, “Well I talk about you online. I say my girl a lot and I be leaving comments under your pics. Don’t you notice?”

How could I not notice, I wait till you comment.

“Yeah I do.” He pulls me closer, “I bet you do.” We start to touch each other’s lips again. Allowing ourselves to enjoy every moment.

“Okaaaay enough of that. Can I see the view,?” I pull away, I am afraid TK and I may go a step further unintentionally or would be considered intentionally.

“Yeah we can.”

I could see the confusion on TK face, he had one of those dumb guy faces they make when they are confused or disappointed.

I strut over to the sliding doors and push one open to the left. I step out first and TK follows. He wraps his arms around my waist and presses my head against his chest. I start to shiver, and he grabs me tighter.

“TK?” I say slowly.

“What?”

“Do you love me?”

“What do I always say?”

“You show love through actions.”

“Right.”

We look off onto the night’s sky and I could feel myself loosening all the way up. I felt so light in his arms like nothing else mattered. Just us enjoying the night’s sky. It was different, something I needed lots of.

I turn around and grab his face, “I love you.”
