10-journaling tips to use in 2023

Journaling tips to help your writing in 2023.

Journaling can be seen as an act of self-care. It’s personal and definitely a perfect way of letting all your feelings out without the judgment of others.

Here is a guide on how to journal better in the new year:

Have a purpose

Knowing why you are journaling is major because it guides you as you began to write the words on the paper. Ask yourself these questions to find your “why”.

  • Am I journaling to relieve stress?
  • Am I journaling as a hobby?
  • What do I need to get off my chest?
  • Am I journaling to clear my mind?

Use prompts

Journal prompts are a major help in beginning your journaling process. For all you, “I don’t like writing” folk, prompts help you get thinking.

Here is guide on some journal prompts for better self reflection in 2023.

Be true to yourself

I use journaling as a technique to not only express myself but to write about my goals, aspirations and also do prompts on self reflection.

When I say be true to you, I am saying use this space as a intimate meeting between you and YOU. Write down your flaws, how you could have handled situations better, your angers, triggers be 1000% honest with yourself and the words will flow.

Let it pour

This ties into letting the words pour, be vulnerable with yourself and just write. You can set a timer for 5 minutes, and just write down your thoughts, each day up the time incriments or stop at a time when you no longer have any words.

Make a schedule

I typically journal whenever I feel the need. You don’t have to journal everyday, it’s really up to you. A suggestion is you could do it weekly, monthly, or even yearly as a year reflection. It’s your decision but creating a schedule to journal can help hold you accountable to get it done.

Do it more, to get more comfortable

With almost everything in life, the more you do it the more you get comfortable. Once you develop a system of how often you are going to journal, it will become easier.

Write when you feel like it

Write when you feel like it, because you will have more to express and get off your chest. This shouldn’t feel like a job, it should be something you do because you want to do it.

Don’t force it

If journaling is not your thing, don’t force it. Never do anything that doesn’t help or really impact you, it’s just a waste of time.
