The winter months are a great time for you to either cozy up under your warmest blankets or bundle up for some outdoor activities like ice skating or sledding.
However, the winter months shouldn’t be ruined by the amount of snow and cold weather that is received. You can still have some fun during the winter with a few ideas and alternatives to summer fun.
Here is your guide on eight fun winter activities to do in 2024:
Go ice skating
Local cities like Detroit offer temporary ice rinks for days of ice skating with families and friends.
At Campus Martius in the heart of Downtown Detroit, you can rent ice skates and skate along the ice rink for a couple of bucks.
During the winter, ice skating is also a great way to get active in the winter while also trying something different.
Host a cabin trip
Gather your closest friends and family and visit a local cabin.
You can bring all your favorite snacks and games for a couple of days away from the inner city and enjoy the sights of your choice.
Make hot chocolate
Hot chocolate is the perfect winter drink to indulge in while you’re trying to relax and stay warm.
I love to add marshmallows, whipped cream and chocolate drizzle to mine.
Go sledding
I have never been sledding but it is on my bucket list of things I want to try.
Sledding is another winter activity if you want to have a little fun in the snow.

Take this season as a chance to layer your outfits, and experiment with different styles and colors.

Have a do-it-yourself craft day
A DIY craft day or night is the perfect winter activity because it doesn’t require you to leave your house (unless you need supplies).
DIY craft ideas:
- Paint your furniture a new hue
- Make a new dish
- Create a tote bag using iron on letters or the Cricut.
- Make a faux cake using styrofoam
- Upcycle your clothing
- Make a candle
Plan movie nights
Grab your favorite blanket, coziest socks, and snacks then turn on a movie.
