Under $10 Mean Girls Inspired Burn Book DIY

DIY the iconic Burn Book owned by Regina George from Mean Girls.

Mean Girls , Clueless and any other fashionable teen movie from the late 90s, early 2000s are my faves. The fashion, lingo, and iconic moments makes this movie a true iconic piece of work. Like many other gems from the movie, how could we forgot one of the most famous pieces the “Burn Book” created by antagonist Regina George.

The Burn Book was a diary that George created to not only talk stupid mess about everyone she hated but to destroy Caddy’s new found social hierarchy.

Front cover of the book includes letters cut out in black and white squares titling, “BURN BOOK”. A red lipstick kiss in the middle of those words with black scribbling of words such as, “fat, mean” and others. The back cover is filled with red lipstick kisses.

I always wanted to DIY a Burn Book after watching the movie so many times, or seeing them being made on TikTok and YouTube. One Friday morning, I went to my local Walmart and got my supplies. It actually took me less than hour to make this (not including the trip to Walmart) but it really is a fun, easy and non expensive craft to make.

Plus why spend $15 or more on buying one when you can easily make one for less than that using supplies you may already have at home!

This DIY includes FREE burn book letters! Find the link in supplies.

Step 1 -Get a pink notebook

I found it quite easier to buy just a notebook that was already pink. Walmart sells neon pink hardcover notebooks that comes with ruled lines.

Some people buy sketch books because they are typically bigger in size and come with blank pages.

Step 2- Find burn book letters or examples

Print Burn Book letters

After doing a Google search, I found some burn letters that were for personal usage and downloaded them to my laptop to print. I cut those letters out and then began placing them on the notebook to see if they resembled my example.

Step 3- Kiss the notebook or cut out red lips

Red lipstick for kiss symbol

Using my Black Radiance lip stick, I kissed the notebook for the infamous red lipstick stamp but the shade was off. My advice is to find the best shade that will show up and practice on paper that won’t be used beforehand. Some more options include using red paint , stencils or just drawing the kisses on!

Step 4- Mod Podge them to the notebook

Carefully Mod Podge letters

I don’t like to use a lot of Mod Podge because it typically leaves streaks. This time I put the Mod Podge only on the back of the letter cut outs.

Step 5- Draw the scribbles

Scribble Burn Book drawings

This was the hardest part for me because I could not draw at all! The scribbles should be easy but for some reason me trying to resemble them was a mess. I used a Google images as reference.

Tip- Use a Sharpie Ultra Fine Marker for better drawing.

Step 6 (Optional)- Kiss the back cover full of red lips

To get that full inspired Burn Book, go ahead and add those kisses on the back cover.

Step 7 (Optional) – Mod Podge Sealant

Use the Mod Podge sealant to seal everything. I sprayed it once covering the entire notebook and it dried in minute.

Step 8- Decide if you’re going to be using it to gossip or for regular use.

The rest is up to you! Some people put glitter, rhinestones and more to spice it up a bit!

DIY Burn Book

I kept mine simple and just added what I saw fit. Also, since my notebook has lines I probably will not use it as an actual book to place photos in and talk mess underneath. It will just be for everyday use!

Hope this DIY was fun and easy to make. Try it with friends and remember, “This girl is the nastiest skank b**** I’ve ever met. Do not trust her. She is a fugly s***”, said Regina George.
