Bring out the cameras!
DIY Valentine’s Day photoshoots are a perfect opportunity to dress up and have fun. You can be creative with your outfits, backdrops, props and even shots. This is also a cool activity for a Galentine’s Day party.
Here are a few tips on how to create a DIY Valentine’s Day shoot:
Pick a theme
Before you go out and buy anything, you need to know your photoshoot theme. It can be a bedroom-style shoot, a self-portrait or even something out in the public.
You can also use social media sites like Pinterest, Instagram, or Facebook for inspiration. However, your theme needs to be Valentine’s Day-related.
Get props
For my shoot, I decided to start with my outfit and base my props on it. I wanted to do something simple that didn’t require a lot of props and time. I already owned my outfit pieces, but I did go to Dollar Tree for the faux rose.

Equipment I use
I did not buy new equipment for this shoot because I already owned everything. If you don’t have a camera, you can use your cell phone to take photos and edit them to your liking.

- Backdrop equipment
- White fabric sheet
- Lighting
- Phone
- Tripod
Set up the shots
This is where you can get creative and start setting up shots that work for you. Since I wanted this to be self-portrait style, most of my shots were shoulders up. You can do full-body, self-portrait, mid-body, shoe shots, and others.
Check out Pinterest and TikTok for inspiration on poses.
Just remember to have fun and experiment!
Edit the shots
I used Adobe Lightroom on my cellphone to edit the shots, but you can use Picsart, Huji, Prequel, or Adode Express to edit your images.
Edit the images to your liking, you can brighten them, erase things in the background you don’t want, add filters, or just about anything. to make your image perfect.
