The way you wake up sets the tone for the day.
Having a morning routine can help your morning be more productive because it gives you something to do as soon as you wake up and can captivate your mind.
Here is a guide on six ideas for a productive morning routine in 2024:
Find a set time to wake up
Waking up at a set time helps create structure. If you already wake up for work, why not give yourself another hour to do something productive like self-care or exercise?
Make your bed
Making your bed in the morning is another good practice because you’re practicing cleanliness.
Plus, who doesn’t enjoy pulling back the covers after a long day of work?
Exercise or practice yoga
A morning exercise routine is a great way to get active. It gets you pumped and ready before the day even begins.
It also gives you something to do versus just laying in bed all morning doing nothing.
Eat breakfast
Eating a healthy and delicious breakfast can help you gain energy to get through the morning.
I don’t like a large breakfast, but at least a banana and a piece of sausage or bacon help me.
Good fruits for breakfast:
- Apples
- Bananas
- Oranges
- Pomegranates
- Pineapple

Journal your morning thoughts
Before you grab your phone, instead grab your journal and write down how you slept and your goals for the day.
Prompts to journal in the morning:
- I slept…
- I dreamed about…
- I hope today brings…
- Today’s goals include…
- This morning, I feel…
Don’t pick up your phone
Pick up the habit of not picking up your phone as soon as you wake up.
What to pick up instead:
- A book
- A yoga mat
- A journal
Bonus idea: Do some self-care
Having a self-care routine for the morning is a good way of taking care of yourself as soon as the day begins.
There’s nothing wrong with taking care of your skin, making yourself a latte or even going for a morning jo. As long as it makes you happy, that’s all that matters.
- Have a skincare routine
- Take a shower
- Go to the coffee shop for a drink or snack
