We’re in that season again.
I want to explore new places, stroll a bit, talk to randoms, and kill time.
“The Playground Canvas”
That’s what I am calling it, a collection of photos, no videos, just words.
Words and photos.
Let’s Talk About It
the blank canvas

I was trying to sit by the water, enjoy the sunshine and warm weather, but I found myself going around in circles.
Needed a cold drink
No, I didn’t eat breakfast, and I was close to grabbing McDonald’s for lunch. I settled for a Slurpee. Great diet?
I actually missed my turn to go back home, but realized I was actually near something I had seen before. It was Downtown Wyandotte, I was off where the park was located, but decided to stroll for a bit. Why not?
7 Eleven looked so pretty where it was set. No photos though! Experience it yourself.
The first stop
Sit down and observe, a great way to get familiar with a space. Tattooed folks walked their pets, and dogs pooped in the open grass space. Modern, historic small businesses lined the street, and big chains like Dollar General sat on corners.
The neighborhood was quiet, pretty peaceful, and folks greeted me with a smile.
The stroll

Went left, a lot of construction. Many sidewalks are not walkable at intersections, but we pivot.
Restaurants, coffee shops with outdoor seating, big flower pots, a quiet downtown area, but it’s Monday.
Took a seat, and a million ants came out of nowhere.
Many bars.
Crossed the street, found the water, and houses off the water. Decided to go downriver and explore.
Bit of a history lesson

The area smelled nostalgic. It reminded me of what they put in history books about booming cities once before. Plus, so many of the businesses were mom-and-pop shops that had been in the neighborhood for years.
Seeing the plaque about the dime stores made sense. Too bad, we don’t have any of those types of stores today.
The closet concept is Dollar Tree.
A “riverfront”

Fishermen, couples, moms with their babies, and older couples sat, talked, and laughed along the riverfront.
It’s the Detroit River. Another view of it. A calmer view.
Curious to know what lies beyond it, what’s on the other side?
In my city, Canada is on the other side.
I need a map.
Couple initials engraved on the wood railing, very early 2000ish.
K+J, S+J
Many park benches.
Reading “In loving memory of such and such” or “It’s a beautiful day to be alive”.
Sweet memories, quiet moments.

Time to go
The weather changed quickly, and I knew a storm was coming.
It was time to leave, head back to my car.
Caught a few more clips of the area, until a bug or something flew in my eye.
Needed more fuel, stopped for an apple juice at Dollar General. That’s all I could find, and my water was too hot.
Anyway, my day went a little like that.
It was fun, it was groovy, it was something new, and I am glad I didn’t go straight home.
I am glad I missed my turn because I ended up getting an extended stay.
