Fun things to do in your 20s for big FUN.

10 ways how to have a fun Michigan summer in your 20s in 2023

Summers in your 20s can be a blast in Michigan with the right tips.

Summers in your 20s don’t have to be a bore. They can actually be a great time if you plan correctly.

Here is a guide on some fun Michigan summer activities to do in your 20s:

1. Find a concert

Concerts are a great way to enjoy your favorite artist or try a new one. Plus outdoor concerts and music festivals are popular during the warmer months.

Beyoncé is coming to Detroit on July 26 to Ford Field.

Drake and 21 Savage are coming for two days in Detroit, July 8 and 9 at Little Caesars Arena.

2. Have a picnic

Hosting an outdoor picnic!

Solo or with friends, picnics are fun especially when you have yummy foods, desserts plus an activity to engage in. I typically buy all my picnic gear at Target or Five Below.

3. Host a movie night

Since the weather is quite decent in the summer months, you can host an outdoor movie night. Only if you have a screen and projector. If that’s too expensive, gather all your friends and host an indoor one! Just make sure to have cold treats to stay cool in the heat.

Campus Martius offers free movie nights on Wednesdays in Detroit.

4. Hang out in the city

Detroit has a few options of bars, restaurants, and even entertainment spaces you can go and enjoy. From museums to the riverwalk, there is something for everyone.

I like to visit the Riverfront or walk along Woodward visiting different shops or restaurants.

Places to visit in Detroit:

Detroit Institute of Arts Museum: 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit

5. Spend a day with friends

Being with friends can be a fun time if you all find something to do rather it’s go out for food, to the park or even out to the bar. Spending time with friends helps build relationships and it’s nothing like spending a summer with your best buds.

Places to go with friends in Downtown Detroit:

  • Deluxx Fluxx: 1274 Library St., Detroit
  • The Brakeman: 22 John R St., Detroit
  • Barcade: 666 Selden St., Detroit
  • Monroe Street Midway: 32 Monroe St., Detroit
  • BrisaBar: 800 Woodward Ave., Detroit

6. Take a trip

Chicago is definitely a fun summer trip for Michiganders. You can drive there, or even take the train which is definitely a fun time. I’ve only taken a train to Chicago but it’s not as bad as it sounds.

Taking a summer trip to a nearby city or state can be super fun if you go alone, with family or friends.

7. Take on a new hobby

Hobbies are something that can take time to develop, that’s why the summer is the perfect time to take on a new one.

Examples of hobbies:

  • Writing
  • Photography
  • Sewing
  • Drawing
  • Pottery
  • Bowling
  • Crafting

8. Throw a party

Parties are one of my favorite things to throw in the summer, especially outdoor BBQs or picnics. A party is not complete without food, music and of course guests! It doesn’t have to be a big party, a small one would do but at least have games or activities for guests to partake in.

9. Go to the amusement park

Michigan doesn’t have many all-year-long amusement parks but you can find a few that pop up in different cities. We also have Michigan’s Adventure which is in Muskegon.

Michigan’s Adventure: 4750 Whitehall Road, Muskegon

10. Try something new

Trying something new could mean a lot of different things. My biggest tips are to visit new attractions, try new foods, restaurants, and hobbies!
