This season can be hard for many especially if you are alone or just not into the holidays. It’s needed at least once a week to do a little bit of self-care.
It doesn’t have to be hard though. I am not an expert or a therapist but I do know these little moments of self-care can turn a bad day into an okay day.
Here is a guide on how to self-care during the holidays:
Make time for you
Use those vacation days and plan out a day just for you. It can be a day of relaxing or a day of fun.
Holidays typically mean family time, and nothing is wrong with that but sometimes family can be a lot. Take a break from the crowds and just enjoy your own company.
Have a bubble bath or a day of making hot cocoa and just snuggling under a blanket watching your favorite movies. Enjoy your personal company.
Try something new
Try a new recipe, a hobby or go to a new place you never been. You don’t have to master it on the first try. Plus you can learn a new skill to put under your belt.
Some hobbies you can dabble in:
- Journaling
- Shopping
- Blogging
- Exercising
- Reading
- Sewing
- Crochet
Try journaling for self-care
Journaling will always be on my list for self-care because it’s one of the most important things we should do more of.
Writing out your thoughts and creating a space for you to vent privately and honestly is a must.
Journal prompts :
- What inspired me today?
- What I want tomorrow to look like?
- The biggest issue I have right now…
- Ways on which I want to improve…
Visit Christmas lights
In Michigan, different cities have light shows or events where you can visit Christmas lights. If you are trying to get the festive mood, events like this may help.

Get crafty
I love a good DIY project because it keeps my mind stimulated on finishing the craft. It’s also a great time to really get creative.
Crafts to do this year:
- DIY ornaments
- Painting
- DIY wreaths
- DIY snow globes
Don’t feel pressured to be “festive”
There’s a weird idea that during the holiday if you’re not festive then something is wrong with you. Not every day nor year are you going to feel like celebrating the holidays and that’s okay.
It’s only up to you to really know and care why you’re not. No one else needs that explanation.
Just be you.
Remember it’s just temporary
The holiday season is temporary, it comes and goes. Don’t let it over consume your well-being or over power every emotion.
Try to enjoy it while it lasts but make sure that you don’t burn out while doing so.
