Today, I went thrifting.
My latest obsession is building a library in my home. (One day)
So, right now I am doing my sourcing.
Let’s Get Into It
What am I sourcing
In my current thrift-shop era, I am sourcing guidebooks.
Teach me about writing, the art of fiction, or graphic design.
It’s fun to read older books about tech and see how it has advanced over time.
The importance of physical media in the digital age
In my opinion, physical media is becoming a sacred tool. While the digital age is here and only progressing, I think it’s important to have a hard copy.
I want to hear it from real people, read it in my hand, and carry it on to the next generations.
That’s what’s important to me.
What did I find
I found a variety of books, ranging from college English books to books that highlight Black power.
My goal is truly to develop an in-house library full of enriching books, vinyls, CDs, VHS, and DVDs, aka the classic stuff.
I am done with my guidebook sourcing for a bit because I have a bunch that I would like to read.
Next up is vinyls!

“Tips and tricks”
A lot of thrift shops have days or even sales where books are five for a $1 or at least 50 cents each.
Use those sales to your advantage.
My local thrift shop, Value World, had all of its multimedia priced at five for a $1. I am telling you, grab the physical media while you still can.
The only issue now is finding the machinery to use the physical media on!
Use your public library as a guide
If you’re unsure of what you want to read or source, start by borrowing.
Fiction books were my favorite, and I thought I wanted a lot of them, but in actuality, I would rather read guidebooks right now.
While I truly believe fiction helps my creative juices and storytelling, I would rather read books that provide me with skills to keep me learning.
Check out books at the library first to explore a variety of interests!
My hardest finds
Going to vinyl festivals is the cheat code, and I am finding a variety of albums, cassettes, and obviously, vinyls.
However, at the thrift store, that’s my hardest source. I am seeking iconic albums, oldies but goodies, and I am not always successful.
I just sourced Madonna and Chaka Khan vinyls at my local Salvation Army, and it was my first time finding two prominent artists.
Just the beginning, though!
