A blog post dedicated to tossing out old shoes.

Where are the black faux snake skin boots?

Listen, when I tell you. To toss the shoes.

Why did you throw your shoes out?

Because I was no longer that woman who showed up in them.

She’s no longer defined by what she was carrying.

Ironically

Something appeared in my home a few days ago. An item my mom bought, and it’s almost as if it confirmed what I already knew was happening. It was a plaque for context. Why overshare? Have fun guessing what it was!

I just defined it differently. Same characteristics, same details, just different wording.

That’s how I knew.

My feet were slipping today. There were cracks in the faux leather.

These were shoes for style.

Now, they look like I wore them one too many times.

Because I did.

They don’t belong in the personal archives.

get it

They represent resilience. I can’t let them remain longer than their expiration date.

It’s expired.

We’re moving past that.

You gotta know when it’s time to toss out the old. Are we still talking about shoes?

Yup.

Stories, past drama, events, shoes, clothing. Memories that no longer serve you.

Move past that.

Let it start with the shoes

Look in your closet right now and toss out a pair of shoes that represent a time in your life that you no longer align with.

Toss them.

Get rid of them.

No, don’t go buy a pair of new shoes unless (yeah).

It felt good

When I saw them in the trash, my life felt relieved. They didn’t need to be sold again; they didn’t need to be donated. No, toss.

That no longer defines me.

It’s an old chapter in my life.

The shoes had to go.

Know when it’s time to remove old clothing and items that no longer represent you

Transition season.

Saying goodbye to the old clothing, and let’s be clear, not the statement pieces.

I am talking about the clothes that carry us through our daily lives. The sweats we throw on after 12 hours—the crewneck we wear with the paint stains.

Those gotta go too. Yes, you need comfortable clothing, but you ain’t gotta keep going to that character.

The one with the finished soles, crumbling text on t-shirts, even though crinkle (crackle) text is a thing now… thanks, Supreme.

Remember the nail polish? Now it’s been made like that for garments.

Poverty once again is being mocked and turned into a ploy for “statement pieces”.

This isn’t about politics.

Let me stay on target.

beyond the typical

Yes. That does represent the first retail job, the first time I went there, explored there.

But it’s defining.

I could’ve tossed those shoes before I got in my vehicle and left them Downtown. But I didn’t.

Either way, they got tossed.

That’s how intentional I was with the progress.

Removing for improvement.

I’ve outgrown those shoes and am stepping into the next level.

Remember, you never wore the same shoes for years as a toddler because you were adapting, learning, and growing.

Toss em, the upgrade is here.

With love,

C.Alilijah
