“It’s personal archives” by. C.Alilijah

A new term? Count me in.

I found a solution to my shopping habit.

Just a few days ago, I stressed about falling out of love with my lovely clothing from 2020, but I found a solution.

Thanks, Madonna!

Well, I hope she found her items.

However, thank you.

I learned a new term

Not really.

See, I knew about this term already in terms of vintage high fashion like Chanel, Dior, and Versace, but I liked the way the term was used in a recent post.

Sorry to Madonna, I truly hope she found her “personal archival” pieces after her surprise guest performance at Coachella.

However, hearing the term used in that capacity changed my mindset.

Why am I not referring to my clothing as a personal archive

Like, uh, hello!

We’re already building a future museum of vinyls, CDs, and VHS tapes; why not do the same for my clothing?

Rank the clothing under “personal archive,” and if it doesn’t fit, get rid of it.

See, that book had me stressed

I am reading one of the books I got from the library, and it’s about women and style. However, the book… well, chapter one had me a bit concerned.

It wasn’t the book. It was me.

I no longer like some of the clothing in my wardrobe. You can read that essay here.

And it made me sad.

However, now I have a solution.

If it doesn’t rank as a personal archive, it has to go

A sexier word choice.

That’s all I needed!

If I don’t envision the item in my closet a few years from now, it has no space.

And that goes for anything in my life!

If an opportunity or event doesn’t make sense to belong in my “personal archive,” I am not participating.

It’s always deeper than just clothing.

What counts as a personal archive

Is it sustainable enough to last? That’s step one.

What impact has it had on my life? Is it memorable, honorable? Does it represent a good time in my life?

Would I want baby Chan to have it? Lol

That’s just a few sentiments to consider.

It’s true, I’ve found a new word to obsess over!

Let’s Talk About It

Are you starting a “personal archive?”
