AfroFuture brought the vibes to Detroit

Detroit is a hot spot for global music festivals and cultural events!

Currently still recovering…

AfroFuture, a two-day musical festival, hit the Detroit streets with a cultural experience. From foodie bits to poetry nights to bar crawls and after parties, there was something to do.

Here’s my experience:

AfroFuture

A weekend full of dancing, culture, connecting and of course – YUMMY food!

My AfroFuture experience began at a poetry night at Northern Lights in the Milwaukee Junction neighborhood that featured acts from all over the country.

Then on Friday, I went to Jerk X Joloff, which is another cultural event that typically occurs in The Belt at The Skip, which features live music, dancing, food and cocktail drinks.

It’s a great way to meet new people by mingling or pregame before the actual event.

The fashion

From The Container series featured local designer – Taylor Childs Studio and AfroFuture owns Dispora Tent, featuring fashion brands from Nigeria, and foodie bits from an African brand called Godiya.

Big Dance Party

AfroFuture provides Detroiters with an opportunity to showcase our society and what we have to offer.

While also providing an opportunity to connect us with individuals from all over the world.

Hennessy Activation

The Hennessy Activation tent was an opportunity to taste test cocktail drinks like strawberry lemonade, blackberry mojitos and margaritas all made with Hennessy!

While also offering a free charging port station to plug in your devices. Plus Insta-worthy photo opportunities.

The vibes

Tee Grizzley, Ludmilla, Asake, and Davido all took the stage and gave us a performance to remember.

My favorite performance

Kaytranada was amazing! He was everything…he gave us classic hits like “Be Your Girl”, “Vivid Dreams”, some recent songs like “Pressure”, “Drip Sweat” and “Space Invader”, which is a new house meets techno hit on his latest album, “Space Invader”.

Free food

Thanks to McDonald’s Remix, we were able to watch live demos with their Chef’s Remix featuring Mamba Hamissi of Baobab Fare. A East African inspired restaurant in Detroit.

Then they gave us free chicken tenders, a small fry with a water bottle or a sip of lemonade.

Plus, photo opportunities to get that full restaurant pop-up experience.
