Life moves fast, right?
Just last night, I was going on a rant about not having a dress, too bad that has changed.
I HAVE A DRESS FOR MY COUSIN’S WEDDING!
Let’s Get Into It
Do I love it?
NOPE!
Is it fast fashion? YES.
I know, right? Totally contradicted myself.
I didn’t trust online shopping
It’s true! I hate online shopping for clothing because I don’t know my size, and I would rather see, breathe, and touch the fabric!
The dresses I searched on Pinterest are similar to the dress I found in the store, and that’s totally all that matters.
Why am I anti-online shopping at the moment?
For me, it feels like you don’t know what you’re getting unless you’ve either ordered from the website before, not been traumatized by fast fashion, or you truly know your exact measurements.
I work in a clothing store, and I’ve developed a need to try things on before I buy. I’ve learned that just because it looks good, that doesn’t mean it feels good on.
Plus, online shopping feels like viewing the same dress 40 different times at 40 price points from online boutiques. Finding an outfit on Pinterest is challenging because one brand may have an ad for it, but then when you Google Search Image the dress, multiple other brands show up selling the same dress with the same models and backdrop. Sourcing the original designer is becoming more complicated because the dupe is a dupe of the dupe.

So, the dress
It’s giving 25 and a fine. I wanted a dress that was chic, not too sexy, but kinda risky, because why not?
At the last wedding I attended, my dress was cute, but I wanted something with a little more depth, more flair. Show my style on display a bit.
Plus, if God does (when) he sends me a date, not only will I have eye candy on my arms, he will too. Unless we have to wait until the next wedding. UGH
How did I find it
I went to my old stomping grounds, a local mall that’s as dead as a… I don’t know! The mall was dead.
However, I knew the mall was going to have a dress. While malls are dying out, they still hold power. USE THE DANG MALL while you still have it.
I found “the dress” and saw the vision. It’s not the perfect dress, but I can dress it up. I had a vision.
Tried the dress on, and girl, it had a large tear. I was sad, but happy because it was too big and I looked like I had eaten too many hash browns.
I asked the cashier if they had any locations nearby, and she suggested Urban Planet.
Side note, Charlotte Russe is also known as “Urban Planet”. Now, if you know Charlotte Russe, you know she was a trendy girls’ store back in the day. I got my first pair of boots from there. She started my mini skirt obsession.
Then she filed for bankruptcy, rebranded, and now has a bunch of random Y2K and random graphic tees, but when you’re desperate for a dress and need something quick and cheap, she gets the job done. Windsor was nowhere in sight, and I did not feel like spending over $60 for a dress, not this time.
The next mall
When I got to the next mall, it was pretty crowded, well, a tad. The parking lot was full, and people were walking out with bags; it was actually ironic. Twenty minutes away, there’s a semi-populated mall, and the other one is just dead. They barely have any food restaurants left.
Anyway, I went straight to the store I was looking for and found my dress.
It was the size I needed, the only one left, and I knew this dress, and I was destined to be.
I also found some cheap shoes to go with it, but no chic accessories. I’ll buy them from the store where I work.
We have a dress, and I am excited
After weeks of dragging my feet, I can finally breathe and say, “Girl, you got a dress”. Now it’s honestly the fun part, dressing it up, styling the look, and focusing on my hair.
While I would love a set of braids, bills before braids.
Instead, I am going to stick to my curly fro, practice a few styles, and not be afraid to rock my natural look. Not like I should be afraid anyway!
Now, we only need jewelry, possibly a layering piece, and more accessories. I can’t wait to show my dress.
Stay tuned for the dress reveal in a few weeks
The wedding is only a few weeks away! Make sure to stay up to date on my blog for the reveal!
Secretly can’t wait to say that for my wedding! Hehe.
