Junk journaling was supposed to be a breeze for me; super simple and super easy.
In actuality, it was a mess!
It wasn’t entirely horrible, but I realized that junk journaling takes time and a bit of patience as well! Or maybe I am overthinking it?!
However, here’s my breakdown of why I HATED my first junk journal spread:
This post features a partnership gift
Decorating the cover page

To start my journal off, I wanted to decorate the cover page to something that represented me! Initially, I wanted it to be a “Who this belongs to type of thing?”
Place before you glue

I realized after 10 glued pieces later that I hated how everything was coming together. From the giant picture I slapped on the left corner to the random letter placement – I was losing the plot.
The better concept – place your items out and see how it will look before you GLUE.

The final product

Being completely honest, I don’t know what I did, but I hate it!
As someone who loves things to have order, I realized this had NO order, no structure. Just vibes!
I left the left-hand corner pretty blank and just added whatever to the right side – I told you, I lost the PLOT!
What I learned
When it comes to making junk journal spreads, my biggest advice is don’t overthink it!
- Have fun
- Place the items together as an example before gluing
- Gather items that you REALLY want to use
- Take your time and don’t rush
- Let your creative juices speak to you
Remember, it’s just random items thrown together that you can create a cohesive look with using your own creativity and imagination!
