And I had actual cute stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mean, my items were priced from $1 to $5. Why are we scared to shop?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s Get Into It<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The yard sale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So, once a year, to honor my grandma’s legacy, I pull out and do a yard sale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did one last year at my aunt’s house; everything was $2. Yeah, I said nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s year two, outside my house, and I sold nothing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not surprised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last summer, no one glared, slowed down, or batted an eye. This summer, some did “glare” but kept driving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing it back to my neighborhood was a nod at my grandma. She was a frequent yard sale seller. Some days she made money, and sometimes she didn’t. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the past couple of years, I’ve been collecting vintage finds. Women’s clothes from the 80s and 90s, like blouses, windbreakers, jerseys, graphic jeans, and denim. Disney VHS tapes, Mariah Carey CDs, and groovy knick-knacks. In addition to modern-day finds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My aunt brought her table, filled it with purses, boots, toys, and dresses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of our items still had the tags. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are we scared to shop <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In our own neighborhoods?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We shop all day long at grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants owned by someone else who doesn’t look like us, but we shift our eyes when it’s “us” trying to build the same thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t have to buy, but can you at least look?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can visit your garage sale, but you can ignore ours?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No, we shouldn’t expect you to pay us the same respect, but when someone spends over $100 at yours. Can we at least get a look? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why are we like that with our own?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no sense of community<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
